The Houston Rockets showed no signs of slowing down, even without Kevin Durant on the court, as they continued their resurgence with a win over the Golden State Warriors,104-100, in the NBA Cup on Thursday (PH time) at Chase Center.
Five players scored double figures for the Rockets, who have now won 12 of their last 14 games. Reed Sheppard led the way for Houston in the road win, recording 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, stepping up in the absence of Durant.
Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr. also contributed for the Rockets, scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively.
It wasn’t smooth sailing for the Rockets, however, as the Warriors launched a furious comeback in the fourth quarter. Golden State unleashed an 11-2 run in the final period to grab an 89-88 lead with 5:01 remaining.
Houston held its nerve down the stretch, outscoring Golden State 13-9 in the final 3:24 to seal the win.
Jimmy Butler scored a team-high 21 points for the Warriors while Stephen Curry struggled on the offensive end against the Rockets, scoring just 14 points. He shot 4-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-9 from beyond the arc, and committed 7 turnovers.
