The Los Angeles Lakers launched their 2025 NBA Cup campaign with a hard-fought victory, 117-112, Saturday morning (Manila time) at the FedExForum, led by a tremendous performance from the returning Luka Doncic.
Doncic immediately made his presence felt, posting 44 big points to lead the charge for the Lakers. The team benefited from the continued hot streak of Austin Reaves, who provided crucial support with 21 markers.
The game remained close throughout the first three quarters as the Memphis Grizzlies refused to let the Lakers pull away. Jock Landale and Jaylen led the effort for Memphis with 15 points apiece.
Ultimately, the Lakers found separation midway through the final frame with a decisive 7-2 mini blitz, just enough to secure the win and open their NBA Cup group play with a victory.
The Lakers will try to make it three in a row when they face the Miami Heat on Monday. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will try to bounce back against the Toronto Raptors on the same day.
