Letran College dethroned four-time defending champion College of Saint Benilde, 15-25, 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 15-12, to clinch the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 women’s volleyball championship on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

The title marked the Lady Knights’ first in 28 years, with Verenicce Colendra leading the way with 23 points on 21 attacks, one block, and one ace.

“This was a testament to the hard work of our players and the collective effort of my fellow coaches,” said first-year Letran head coach Mayeth Carolino, who was still a Lady Knight the last time the team won the title.

Also stepping up was Finals Most Valuable Player Judiel Nitura, who contributed eight points. She averaged 13.0 markers in the best-of-three affair.

Vanessa Sarie added 19 points and 15 receptions, while Gia Maquilas showcased her all-around brilliance with 17 points, 17 receptions, and 13 digs. Senior Lara Mae Silva also chipped in with 33 excellent sets.

However, it was Joralyn Panangin who delivered the biggest moment, firing the title-clinching service ace to finish with two points.

On the other hand, Zam Nolasco poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Blazers in what was her final game in the collegiate ranks.
